Creating and Managing a VPS
Create
Go to VPS, Create VPS and choose:
- An OS template
- The size: pick one of your plans, or set vCPU, memory and disk yourself
- A hypervisor and an IP pool
- A port speed and an optional monthly bandwidth allowance
- Optional DNS servers: Google, Cloudflare, Quad9, OpenDNS or your own, up to three
- A hostname, a client, and a root password (or leave it blank to generate one)
- Optional: a control panel or recipe to install, and saved SSH keys
The VPS shows Booting until its system has applied its settings, then Running.
Manage
Open the VPS from VPS, All VPS:
| Tab | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Overview | Login details, network, plan, live CPU, memory, disk and bandwidth |
| Manage | Change the client, password, hostname or DNS servers, resize, add IPs, set reverse DNS, add disks, schedule tasks, suspend, move to another hypervisor |
| Boot and rescue | Mount an ISO, change the boot order, start rescue mode, VNC access |
| Firewall | Inbound firewall rules and anti-spoofing |
| Bandwidth and speed | Port speed and monthly bandwidth limits |
| Graphs | Live CPU, memory, network and disk graphs |
| Backups | Back up and restore the VPS |
| Activity | Every action on the VPS |
A new root password or hostname is applied straight away on a running Linux VPS, without a restart. Windows VPSes, and VPSes that are stopped or in rescue mode, restart to apply it. (On AlmaLinux, Rocky and other EL VPSes created before 5.5.22, the first hostname change still restarts; later ones apply live.)
VPS, Rebuild VPS reinstalls a VPS with the same or another template, optionally with a control panel or recipe. The disk is erased; the IP, MAC, hostname and size stay.
Suspend
Manage, Suspend shuts the VPS down and stops its client from starting or changing it. The reason you enter is shown to the client. Unsuspend starts it again.
